The Campaign Begins...

There was a time when men were kind, when their voices were soft and their words inviting. There was a time when love was blind, and the world was a song! And the song was exciting. There was a time...then it all went wrong.

I never thought this day would come - not this event, mind you. I know, I knew, I have always known, that the people of this great land would see fit to call me on me to make good on my promise - dare I say...destiny - and to take on the mantle of The Best President of the United States of All Time^TM.

I just never thought this day would come so soon. I never imagined that my claim to the title of The Best President of the United States of All Time^TMwould be at the expense of that man in the red and blue spandex, that superhero, that man we saw during his campaign leaping from building to building, saving children and extinguishing fires all while explaining a budget that made sense - a budget that made you feel good.

So it is with some sadness that I make the following announcement:

I am officially announcing my intention to challenge sitting President Barack Obama in the upcoming Democratic primary. My large and efficient campaign staff is working on crafting a more suitable and specific message for you all and I look forward to explaining my campaign platform more fully.

But I couldn't wait a single day to tell you the great news that we are in this fight together! And that I, your reticent leader, have finally joined you - not in the fray - but high, high above you on a mountaintop, a billowing pinnacle, ready to lead you into the future. And it is with utmost humility that I say that I cannot wait to begin my term as The Best President of the United States of All Time^TM.

In the meantime, I plan to be pro-legislation and stick to my roots. I will also be entertaining ideas for key cabinet positions.

But let's not forget, the most important thing of all:

CHOOSE A WORLD FOR YOUR CHILDREN

Choose a world for your children

The Non-State of the Union

Friends,

Over the past few days, many close friends and colleagues have approached me to discuss my recent announcement to suspend my Presidential campaign. Some have expressed support, and I humbly appreciate that. However, many expressed concern.

They felt I was "letting Obama off the hook" by making my intentions known. A friend I respect very much told me I'd "gone soft" and asked if the next Nero Fiddled show was going to be about butterflies and pixie dust. "How are we supposed to hold our leaders responsible," Eleanor Roosevelt asked, "if you are not willing to rise up against them? Are you giving up the fight? I meant only for you to think of the unity of our party, not lie down in the road like a dog!"

I will not reveal the identities of some of the people who spoke to me in confidence, as many of them are high-ranking public officials and Grammy Award winning pop singers. But it is to them especially that I am writing today.

Please, everyone - rest assured that, whether or not I have chosen to run for President in 2012, I will be as diligent as ever in my quest to bring about stronger democracy here and abroad. I will continue to challenge our elected officials whenever there is injustice in the most efficient and responsible way possible, whether that be through my blog, via my campaign, or in song. I will never give up, no matter who is in the White House, Capitol Building or Supreme Court.

Tonight, President Obama gives his first address to a joint session of Congress. After much cross-aisle sniping, party line votes and the ridiculous posturing of people like Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, it will be interesting to see what Obama does with this time. And it will be interesting to see how the Republican half of the room reacts. And it will be interesting to see how we react - if Obama the President can inspire the feeling of hope and security as well as Obama the candidate did.

We have to listen critically. And we need to be as vocal as ever about what we agree with, what we don't agree with and what we think he outright cannot do as we were about Bush's plans. We need to be MORE vocal and assertive. Because we're not playing defense anymore. We've finally got the ball - how silly would it be let our quarterback run the wrong way?

And, a personal note to HnryKissgr_74: there is no need to be so distraught. We are going to do musicals for many years and there may well be a small part in one of them for you yet!

And remember, everyone, there's always 2016 to look forward to.

I Choose Not To Run

It is with mixed feelings that I write you this message. I have faced the presidential election of 2012 with great anticipation. The thought that, finally, I would be of age to throw my hat into the Executive Wing Ring has provided great support to me during the past eight years.

With my Jew Behind the Scenes, Noah Diamond, I have been busily refining my campaign platform (Pro-Legislation), my slogan ("Don't fake the funk") and my inspirational call-to-action ("Choose a world for your children!"). I had even gone so far as to book my inaugural band (The Beatles). Then, something happened that changed everything.

As many of you know, Barack Obama recently became 44th President of the United States. A few days after the election, while I was testing out my new iron-on campaign logos, one of my closest advisors, Eleanor Roosevelt, approached me. She told me that hope was in the air. She said "change is sweeping the country. It is time for unity. Do not split the Democratic Party. I beg you."

I was taken aback by her words and walked to a nearby park, thinking over what she'd said. I watched the children at play, their innocent laughter floating past me on gossamer wings. And I realized she was right.

It is for this reason that I have decided to suspend my campaign for the Presidency and not challenge sitting President, Barack Obama, for the Democratic nomination in 2012.

Instead, I'll keep this blog. And continue to serve my country in the best way I know how. By keeping a blog. Meanwhile, stay tuned for more CAMPAIGN 2016 info here!
